Okay, so I made it to the end of 2011 and tomorrow begins a whole new year with all kinds of adventures and wackiness. I do not know what to expect but I imagine some things will be new and some things will be the same.
Several new things happened during 2011:
I moved again. That makes about 5 moves in 10 years. No, I am not running from the law. Yes, I am aware that everyone who knows me is surprised that I am not.
I began attending conventions. The first I went to was Katsucon in Maryland. After that I went to Otakon, Baltimore Comic Con, New York Comic and ended with Virginia Comic Con.
I started this blog. The interesting thing was that my regular posts did not get much attention but when I started writing posts about conventions and interviewing people at conventions the number of views dramatically increased. Funny how that works.
Going to conventions introduced me to many interesting,, talented people. I have bought a great deal of art from some of these talented people.
Meeting people also introduced me to different types as well. VA Comic Con had a visitor who was not very happy and made several people uncomfortable with his presence. He talked about things that bothered people and kept complaining about how unfair he was treated at conventions. This sticks in my mind as I feel that may be me in a sense. I do not want to be that guy but I fear I am. It leads me to resolve not to bother people anymore. By this I mean I have been trying (unsuccessfully) to get in touch with some friends and now I think I will stop making the effort. I say that as I do not want to bother them.
I have several pieces of art that I need to get framed. That is going to be one of my goals for the new year. Frame the art and find fantastic new pieces to purchase.
It was an interesting year and I hope the new year is even more fascinating.
Observations, stories and opinions from a sarcastic. cynical point of view.

Thank goodness that is over!
Christmas is over and I am glad that is done. This year I was alone (I like to think that was my choice but the truth is...) and sat around watching movies that have been accumulating. So a giant bag of popcorn and several titles later I was finished. By several I mean six. The bad part was that none of them really moved me. The ones I watched were "Igor", "A Month by the Lake", "Men who Stare at Goats", "Role Models" and "Angel-A". While I enjoyed the day where I did absolutely nothing, I wish I enjoyed the movies as much. Maybe I was expecting too much but I did not find any of the movies to be great. I suppose it is my own fault. I want the movies I watch to be classics. Is that too much to ask? If I had to pick I would say that "Angel-A" was the best of the lot. It was made by the same man who made "The Professional" but "Angel-A" was not nearly as good.
So all this means is that I need to follow the one thing teachers are constantly telling elementary students nowadays--make better choices! Of course this statement applies to pretty much everything in my life.
The day was quiet otherwise. I think my cats enjoyed it since we were together all day and they slept next to me for most of it. Imagine-cats sleeping all day long. Who knew they did that?
I want to say I did more but I am not going to lie to you. I laid in bed all day. Okay, there is one other thing I did. I finished the book Game of Thrones. I have not seen the TV series but I completed the first book of the series and it ends on quite a dramatic note. I know the DVD of the series is coming out next year and I know it will sell very well. Lots of death and drama especially near the end of the book. Peter Dinklage was cast as probably the most interesting character in the series as Tyrion's loyalties are not clear. My personal feeling is that his loyalty is to himself. That and Sansa is not the good sister.
So that was the majority of my Christmas day. Man, I love popcorn. Overall it was a good day since I do enjoy the quiet.

YouTube
I have recently discovered the joys of YouTube. Now I know you may not have heard about this site yet but let me suggest you give this site a try. The sheer quantity of videos available is staggering. Sure, some of the new ones are easily available on the home page when one goes to the main page but there are many more than what is posted on the front page. Some of the videos posted are akin to sitting and watching flowers bloom.
Here is the link: http://www.youtube.com. You should go there and go often. New videos are constantly being added. A person can search for videos or even favorite the ones they really, really like. The site even makes suggestions for new videos to watch based on previous ones you have viewed. It is truly an amazing site. Really. It is not a time waster at all.
Where else can a person watch people superglue themselves to each other. There are quite a few of those floating around. Yes, I have seen some of them and constantly ask myself why, why are you watching this. The answer is simply that the absurdity (or stupidity) of people's behaviors amuses me.
But wait, there's more. You can also watch videos of animals. All kinds of animals doing what animals do. Some people have even taped animals and then made it seem like the animal is talking. One of the most famous is Jupiter, the talking cat. I have heard about this cat in whispered rumors before but the truth is much more bizarre.

Of course, there are serious videos as well, But who wants to watch those. Going to the Internet to learn things is a crazy concept. A website where people can come and watch silly videos is just what the Internet needed. There is no reason for people to use the Internet for educational purposes. That is the beauty of YouTube. They give people another reason to play on the Internet. Thank you, YouTube, thank you.

in the news
Recently, there was a story about a couple who left their baby at Wal-mart as they fled with stolen merchandise. http://www.wave3.com/story/13783231/shoplifting-couple-leaves-baby-behind
This story brings a few thoughts to mind.
These two people got "The Godfather" wrong. It's not "Leave the baby, take the merchandise". The line was "Leave the gun, take the cannoli".
They misunderstood Wal-Mart's exchange policy.
The two of them tried to change the police's gun for toys concept to merchandise for babies.
Another recent story involves a newlywed who did not appreciate her husband playing video games all the time. She put him on Craigslist..
http://www.newsoxy.com/odd/wife-sells-video-game-obsessed-husband-on-craigslist-38623.html
The odd thing is she received offers for him . What the offers were I have no idea. I have to wonder about the wisdom of buying a husband when there are so many one could get for free.
Oh who am I kidding. Relationships are never free. They cost emotionally, mentally and psychologically.
This last story is common knowledge now due to the seriousness of it. I am hesitant to post it here but this man's interview needs to be brought up.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/45533539/ns/the_new_york_times/t/amid-sex-abuse-scandal-jerry-sandusky-tells-his-own-story/from/toolbar/
1) He says showering with young boys was a mistake. Really? What kind of world does he live in where that needs to even be said? How is that an afterthought? The fact he even admits he made that kind of mistake means there is a serious problem here.
2) “I had kid after kid after kid who might say I was a father figure.” Is he even aware he used the word might? He does understand the word's meaning allows for doubt, right? Even the first half of this statement is wrong. He is phrasing this all wrong.
3) He saw these other kids as his own? What does that mean for his actual children? Did he does these things to his actual children as well?
One thing that bothers me about this whole situation is how it makes it harder for other males to be around children in schools since there is now an onus about men and children. People will look at other men around elementary schools and wonder about them. The accusations make it harder for male teachers.
If Sandusky is convicted and sentenced to prison he is going to find out how molesters are treated in prison. Hint: the stories I have heard do not present a pretty picture.
